Behind the Design: Milk Orchid Expressive

Milk Orchid Expressive looks different because it is different.

Until now, our Expressive Scent Space has been defined by elemental restraint: white text on black bottles, letting each fragrance speak for itself.

With Milk Orchid joining the collection, this design approach no longer felt right.

Originally part of our Editions Collection, its visual identity was shaped by our co-creator, Emma of @Perfumerism, to be shimmering, pink and ethereal.

Moving Milk Orchid to Scent Space didn’t just introduce a new design—it required a transition.

A Fragrance of Firsts

Milk Orchid carries more firsts than any fragrance before it.

It’s our only co-created scent (in collaboration with Emma of
@Perfumerism). It’s also our only Expressive-only Scent Space launch, and the only fragrance to move from our Editions Collection into the permanent line.

It couldn’t just join the collection; it needed to redesign it.

So, for the first time, we introduced imagery on the bottle and the packaging.

An X-Ray of an Orchid

The orchid itself became the starting point for the design, quickly reimagined into an x-ray to maintain the Expressive Collection’s black and white, elemental aesthetic.

We began where most would—researching real orchids. From the spindly ghost orchid to more traditional, recognizable varieties, we explored a range of shapes and forms. But none of them felt quite right.

So we created our own.

The Commodity Orchid

Created by our design team, this x-ray style of orchid draws from familiar orchid silhouettes, refined into a more abstract, modern form—something that feels both organic and architectural.

After our team refined this style, our Re-Founder, Vicken, collaborated with his daughter Olivia, a graphic design student, to iterate on the orchid to produce the final form you see on our packaging—a small but meaningful moment that brought a personal layer into the process.

The design team then carried that direction forward, ensuring every detail was calibrated to live seamlessly on all creatives.

If you look closely at our Orchid, you’ll notice it’s composed of dots and lines. A small detail that pays homage to an architectural blueprint: a merging of Commodity’s design DNA with Emma’s aesthetic.

The result is an orchid that exists somewhere between the common and the odd. Recognizable, yet entirely new.

New Bottle, Same Milk Orchid

While the bottle looks different, the same fan-favorite formula remains.

Milk Orchid Expressive is available to shop, now in a 10ml, 30ml and 100ml.

And as a Scent Space fragrance, the Personal and Bold versions must come next…
